A Celebration of Talent and Togetherness: Mid-Pen’s Fall Concert and Thanksgiving Festivities

Before students set off on their week-long break, the Mid-Pen gym transformed into a vibrant theater, its ad hoc stage adorned with musical instruments. Soon, the stage came alive with music and unforgettable performances, kicking off a two-day celebration of student talent that captivated everyone in attendance.

With students managing the lighting booth and music teacher Jameson Swanagon at the audio controls, everything was perfectly set for the Fall Concert. Students from six Mid-Pen music classes showcased their semester-long growth with an eclectic mix of musical numbers, ranging from Foo Fighters’ “Walk” to Boygenius’ “Not Strong Enough.” They played, and mastered, an impressive array of instruments: guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, and voice. Witnessing the culmination of their hard work was nothing short of inspiring—a testament to their dedication and talent.

The stage remained for one more day as Mid-Pen hosted its annual Thanksgiving Talent Show and feast. Where rows of chairs stood the night before, round tables now filled the gym, draped in autumnal tablecloths and surrounded by festive decor. Along the back wall, long tables overflowed with Thanksgiving favorites—mashed potatoes, gravy, mac and cheese, turkey, ham, and more—creating a feast for students and staffulty alike.

Student hosts Chris R. ’25 and Monze J. ’25 kicked off the talent show with humor, setting the tone for a series of incredible performances. From contemporary dance routines to stunning vocal solos, the student talents wowed the audience. Some acts even inspired the crowd to hold up their phone flashlights, turning the gym into a shimmering, starry night.

The two-day celebration was a poignant reminder of the power of community and creativity at Mid-Pen. From the moving musical performances to the shared laughter and applause at the talent show, these events highlighted not only the incredible talents of our students but also the joy of coming together to celebrate one another. These unforgettable moments will be cherished, reminding us of the importance of connection, gratitude, and shared experiences—a truly perfect way to start the holiday break.
