A Week of Exploration: DragonWeek 2026 Recap

DragonWeek took our students far beyond the classroom, both across the globe and right here in the Bay Area, for a week of immersive, hands-on learning. From Atlanta to Germany to the waters off San Francisco, each group explored their subject through direct experience. Students in “Down in the Dirty South” engaged deeply with civil rights history, while our Marine Biology group got up close with ocean life through aquarium visits and whale watching. Others explored creativity and craft through welding, pottery, and rug tufting, or tackled real-world challenges like trying to solve a cold case through forensic science or  learning about accessibility and advocacy in disability rights spaces.

What made DragonWeek especially meaningful was the way each experience connected learning to the real world. Students listened to preserved historical audio, photographed the Bay Area on film and developed their work back on campus, and stood in places they’ve only read about—like the Berlin Wall and Neuschwanstein Castle. Whether rafting rivers, gathering around campfires, or stepping into labs, studios, and cultural institutions, students built skills, confidence, and lasting memories. We’re excited to share a glimpse of these experiences through this week’s photo slideshow.
