Mid-Pen Welcomes New Learning Support Team Members

Mid-Pen's Enrichment Center (EC) sits in the center of the school's building. It buzzes with activity throughout the school day as students take classes or have one-on-one work sessions with Mid-Pen's learning specialists. The EC's location and its activities perfectly capture the school's mission to put students first, working with how they learn and grow.

To further enhance the school's educational support for students, Mid-Pen welcomes Learning Specialist Angélica Camacho and Math Advancement Teacher Annmarie Papp to its Learning Support team. They join Executive Functions Coach Ed Stern.

Learning Specialist Angélica Camacho

"I'm excited to connect with our students and be in a smaller community allows for collaboration and partnership with our families and my colleagues," said Angélica, who leads the Learning Support Team to coordinate support for students with learning challenges. Angélica comes to Mid-Pen with more than a decade of educational experience working with K-12 students. She holds a  bachelor of science degree in psychology and a master of arts degree in counseling.

Annmarie has been teaching since 2001 after a 25-year career in the high-tech industry. Degreed in computer science and mathematics, Annmarie’s first position was in Albert Einstein’s office at Princeton University as one of the first female computer science graduates in 1985. She was drawn to Mid-Pen because of its student-centric focus.

Math Advancement Teacher Annemarie Papp

Annmarie is also excited to bring m mathematics best practices to the staffulty at Mid-Pen and is specifically interested in creating equitable best practices in mathematics.  "Math has a reputation as a gatekeeper for student learning, meaning if a student struggle in learning math, there is a negative connotation to their learning ability," she said. "We're looking at how we can develop as math educators to create an equitable opportunity for all students. That's my passion."
