Tara Theobald-Anderson

Teaches: ENGLISH III/IV, GENDER STUDIES

Originally from Chicago, Tara moved to San Francisco in 2008 and quickly fell in love with the San Francisco Bay Area. They graduated cum laude and with departmental honors from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a Bachelors of Arts in Teaching of English (secondary education) and a Bachelors of Arts in Gender and Women's Studies. They hold a valid teaching credential in both Illinois and California, and continues to hone their teaching skills each year through classes with the Bay Area Writing Project at UC Berkeley. Tara considers themself to be a punctuation princess, as well as a strong believer that every student loves to read (and just hasn't found the right book yet, though frequently finds themself having to defend this position with students who claim to personally feel otherwise).

Before joining the Mid-Peninsula staff, Tara taught at a nearby alternative private school down the peninsula, an alternative education program designed for "at-risk" youth and non-traditional learners within Oakland Unified School District, and a magnet high school in Chicago. They are excited to continue working in a non-traditional school environment here at Mid-Peninsula and loves having the opportunity and privilege to continue to learn their students’ interests, learning styles, and charismatic personalities.

In their spare time, Tara also loves biking; writing; camping; travel; animals; learning about space; working on art and wood projects around the house; curling up on the couch to enjoy an old Hitchcock or Cary Grant flick; and hiking California's beautiful terrain and scenery. They live with their wife and son in Oakland.
